Energy Use Efficiency and Carbon Footprint of Greenhouse Hydroponic Cultivation Using Public Grid and PVs as Energy Providers

As the greenhouse cultivation industry considers new ways to reduce energy demand and increase sustainable production, global crisis constitutes a major issue. In this paper, two different sources for heating cooling root zone area of baby leafy vegetables grown in hydroponic tanks by resistors chillers, respectively, were compared order fully cover power demand. The needs first case met public electricity grid, while second case, covered photovoltaic system. was equipped with panels, an inverter, charge controller storage target-value temperature 22 °C. Data on solar radiation, temperature, air humidity from indoor outdoor space recorded, production carbon footprint seasons year evaluated along crop yield. results showed that provided panels able 58.0%, 83.3% 9.6% or during spring, summer winter periods, respectively. Regarding used between systems, system PV had substantially lower value, which calculated at 1.6 kg CO2-eq kg−1, 49.9 kg−1 PPG whole year.
